Buck Knives
The history of Buck knives extends back to the handmade fixed blade knives of Hoyt Buck starting in 1941, to Al Buck who popularized the lock back Buck knife folding hunter in 1962 (and propelled the company into world wide success), and now (1979-present) to Chuck Buck and son CL Buck who are producing best sellers designed by the likes of Mick Strider and other modern custom knife makers.
Buck Knives and the Buck Knife Folding Hunter
The Buck knife, folding lock back hunter was probably the single greatest invention (and money producer) of the Buck family. It was not a new invention. Folding lock back knives had been around for years but they were expensive, fragile, and awkward to carry in the pocket. Al Buck took a basic design and reworked it into a virtually new product. The Buck knife, folding hunter model 110 was tough, streamlined, modern, functional, and made to carry in a belt sheath instead of in the pocket. Hunters, tradesmen, law enforcement, and just about everyone else loved it. It generated millions of sales and allowed Buck knives to grow into one of the largest knife manufactures in the world.
